The more I read Star Trek fic, the more I'm convinced that Vulcan is partly based on Filipino, at least for their terms of endearment.

Cases in point:

k'hat'n'dlawa - half of each other's heart and soul. This may have been derived from kahati ng dalawa, which kind of doesn't make sense in Filipino because its literal translation is "one half of ( Read more... )

There are certain fandoms that lend itself to smushed-up ship names. And there are fandoms that don't. Some smushed-up names are ridiculously funny (e.g., Drarry, Larry, Snarry, Dumblewald, etc.). I've decided to re-watch all three seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender, which explains the recent spate of A:TLA fics on my ff.net faves list. I've always been 'meh' on the subject of ships in Avatarverse, but I'm really starting to hanker for Zuko/Katara at the moment. The recently-released hi-res screenshots of the new Star Trek movie are amazing. The amount of eye-candy in just one shot dazzled me. To quote my mom, "Huh? They all look good!"
